Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 342 AM EDT Wed Aug 26 2015 Valid 12Z Wed Aug 26 2015 - 12Z Fri Aug 28 2015 ...Showers and thunderstorms expected today across portions of the Rockies and southwestern U.S... ...Low pressure system to bring numerous showers and thunderstorms to portions of the central and northern plains Thursday... The combination of an upper-level disturbance moving across Utah and Colorado today, along with a cold front crossing the northern Intermountain West, will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to much of the interior western U.S. from Wyoming southward to Arizona and New Mexico today. The most numerous showers and thunderstorms will be across the higher terrain of Utah and Colorado, where terrain as well as the passing upper-level disturbance will increase vertical motion. On Thursday the low pressure system will move into the central plains and will tap into deeper moisture from the gulf of Mexico. Thus, expect numerous showers and thunderstorms to develop on Thursday across portions of the central and northern plains. These showers and thunderstorms on Thursday may produce heavy rainfall. A slow-moving frontal boundary will bring showers and thunderstorms to northern portions of Maine today. The same frontal boundary extends southward just off the East Coast and across Florida, where scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected today and Thursday. The most widespread showers and thunderstorms should be across the Florida Peninsula. Below average temperatures will continue for much of the eastern half of the country through Thursday -- with afternoon high temperatures forecast to be 5 to 15 degrees below average.
