Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 419 PM EDT Wed Aug 26 2015 Valid 00Z Thu Aug 27 2015 - 00Z Sat Aug 29 2015 ...Showers and thunderstorms expected through Thursday afternoon across portions of the Rockies and southwestern U.S... ...Low pressure system to bring numerous showers and thunderstorms to portions of the Central and Northern Plains Thursday and Friday... A low pressure system, currently over the Intermountain west, will allow a cooler airmass to spill along the Rockies into the Central and Southern Plains by Friday evening. A warm front will begin to develop Thursday evening over the Central Plains and will lift into the Midwest through Friday. With upper-level support and sufficient moisture availability in the lower levels of the atmosphere, widespread convection is expected through Friday evening spanning from the Desert Southwest to the Northern Plains. Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop over the Kansas to southwest Minnesota corridor. Some of these storms may produce heavy rainfall. A slow-moving frontal boundary has pushes offshore today; however southern portions of the boundary have stalled over the coastal areas of the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will persist through Thursday in these areas. The nearly stationary boundary may push retreat inland later this week as Tropical Storm Erika advances toward Florida. The exact track of T.S. Erika remains uncertain at this time. Below average temperatures will continue for much of the eastern half of the country through Thursday -- with afternoon high temperatures forecast to be 5 to 15 degrees below average.
