A storm system over the Central Plains will continue its path eastward through the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of the cold front, which will span from Oklahoma to northern Illinois. Scattered to widespread shower activity will also develop near the warm front as it lifts from Illinois/Indiana into the Great Lakes region this weekend. Periods of heavy rain will be possible for the Upper Midwest and Middle Mississippi Valley; which may lead to localized flash flooding. A cold front will push onshore this weekend from the East Pacific, making its way through the Intermountain West into the Northern Plains by Sunday. Coastal areas are expected to have higher rainfall intensity and coverage as this system progresses inland. Additionally, some showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Northern Intermountain Region/Northern Rockies by Saturday evening. Monsoonal moisture and daytime heating will generate convective activity for portions of the Southern/Central Rockies and the Southwest also through Saturday evening. A large portion of the Southeast states will have scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms through Sunday as Easterly flow off the Atlantic streams in moisture along an old boundary over the area. As Tropical Storm Erika takes a northward track, bands of heavy rain will move into Southern Florida. Flash flooding will be possible on Saturday and Sunday.
