Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 436 AM EDT Sun Sep 06 2015 Valid 12Z Sun Sep 06 2015 - 12Z Tue Sep 08 2015 ...A slight risk of severe thunderstorms today over parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Central Plains and the Middle Mississippi Valley today through Tuesday... Widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop over the Central Plains, Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley and over the Great Lakes region ahead of a slow moving cold front and persist over the next couple of days. Conditions will be favorable for some the thunderstorms to turn severe over the Upper Midwest today. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted Minnesota, western Wisconsin and Iowa as having a slight risk. These same area may observe excessive rainfall from over the next couple of days; which could lead to flash flooding. The convective activity is expected to taper off over the Northern Rockies and Northern High Plains on Sunday. Meanwhile, onshore flow and upper-level disturbances will aid in producing rain along parts of the Pacific Northwest through early Monday. In addition, monsoonal moisture and daytime heating will produce showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southern/Central Rockies on Saturday afternoon and evening. The monsoonal showers and thunderstorms will wane on Sunday. Most of the Southeast and southern Mid-Atlantic regions will have showers and thunderstorms initiate and persist over the next few days with the easterly flow off the Atlantic and upper-level energy over the Southeast/Central Gulf Coast focused over the area.
