Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 454 AM EDT Wed Sep 09 2015 Valid 12Z Wed Sep 09 2015 - 12Z Fri Sep 11 2015 ...Flash flooding possible for portions of coastal New England Thursday and Friday... ...Above average temperatures expected for the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and the West Coast... Much of central and eastern U.S. will have showers and thunderstorms over the next few days as a relatively strong cold front moves through followed by another cold front plunging south from Canada. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to be over the Ohio valley region this afternoon, shifting east into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states tonight and into Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms will also continue for portions of Texas into the lower Mississippi valley through Thursday and into Friday as the movement of the trailing end of the front slows. Abundant moisture, instability and storms passing over the area will create conditions favorable for higher rainfall amounts. A majority of New England is forecast to receive 2 to 3 inches; with 4+ inches focused over extreme eastern Maine. Flash flooding will likely be of concern for this region Thursday and Friday. The rather warm airmass that's been impacting the East recently will cool slightly on Thursday as clouds and precipitation move into these areas. Temperatures will also be as much as 10 to 15 degrees above average along the West Coast through Thursday as high pressure at the mid and upper-levels of the atmosphere remains in place, which will also keep conditions dry.
