Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 406 PM EDT Sat Sep 19 2015 Valid 00Z Sun Sep 20 2015 - 00Z Tue Sep 22 2015 ...Showers and thunderstorms expected along the front from the Great Lakes to the southern Plains... ...A wet few days in store for the Pacific Northwest... ...Monsoonal moisture will bring showers and thunderstorms to the Southwest... Currently, a cold front is draped across the U.S. from the Great Lakes region, into the Ohio and Tennessee valley, to the southern Plains. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue to travel along and ahead of this front from the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley tonight. By tomorrow morning, as the front pushes eastward into New England, precipitation will increase in coverage throughout the morning in the Northeast. However, the cold front will quickly move offshore and as a result, precipitation will taper off through Sunday afternoon. Behind this front, fall-like temperatures will settle throughout the regions spanning from the Upper Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast. The portion of the cold front moving across Texas will stall by Saturday night, and eventually lift north as a warm front. With plenty of moisture on tap and instability, convection will continue to fire off across the northern and western portions of the state through the rest of Saturday and into Sunday morning. As the warm front lifts toward the Red River valley on Sunday afternoon, most of the convection will concentrate in Oklahoma. A cold front from Canada will continue to advance south toward the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West Saturday and into Sunday. During Saturday night and into Sunday morning, an increase of showers along the coastal Pacific Northwest and the Cascades will occur. As the cold front moves eastward toward the northern Rockies on Monday morning, the area will mostly dry out with the chance of light showers along the Cascades. Monsoonal moisture will infiltrate the Southwest over the next few days, with the bulk of moisture approaching the area by Sunday and into Monday. Precipitation will increase across southern California, Arizona, and New Mexico on Monday. Fanning Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
