Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 PM EDT Sat Sep 26 2015 Valid 00Z Sun Sep 27 2015 - 00Z Tue Sep 29 2015 ...Coverage of showers and thunderstorms gradually increases over the Gulf coast this weekend raising flash flooding concerns for Monday... ...Temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees above normal over parts of the central Great Basin, Northern/Central Rockies, and Northern Plains... Portions of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast will remain overcast and wet as a moist airmass persists in streaming inland. Coastal areas of southern Virgina and North Carolina are forecast for additional rain through Sunday morning which may result in flash floods. Enhanced upslope forcing along the Blue Ridge/central and southern Appalachians will yield higher rainfall on the order of 1 to 1.5 inches along the terrain. Isolated runoff issues may arise in that vicinity. Florida and Gulf Coast will have showers and thunderstorms as a couple of lows develop over the Gulf of Mexico. The exact position of these surface lows remain uncertain, but will definitely play a role in rainfall amounts along the coastal areas of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. At this point in time the highest amounts (1 to 3 inches) are forecast to remain offshore, with 0.50" or less inland. A cold front will slowly track east through the Intermountain West and Northern Plains over the next couple of days. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible along and ahead of the front; however rainfall amounts are forecast to remain on the light side. The cold front will help moderate temperatures back towards normal after the warm conditions of Saturday. The primary area of below normal temperatures will be the cloudy areas of the Mid-Atlantic.
