Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 458 AM EDT Wed Oct 07 2015 Valid 12Z Wed Oct 07 2015 - 12Z Fri Oct 09 2015 ...Severe thunderstorms and flash flooding possible for southern New Mexico and west Texas... An upper-level low will track across the Desert Southwest and southern Rockies bringing showers and thunderstorms to the area. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted this areas as having a slight rick for thunderstorms to become severe. In addition, with warm moist air drawn into the region, higher rainfall intensities and duration may lead to flash flooding. Much of western Texas and southeast New Mexico is expected to receive 1 to 3 inches of rain, with isolated areas in excess of 3 inches over the next 3 days. A cool airmass from Canada will move into the Northern Plains behind a developing low pressure system. Rain is expected to develop ahead of the low and spread eastward across the Northern Plains, upper Midwest and the Great Lakes on Wednesday and Thursday. A good chance of thunderstorms is expected in the Midwest on Thursday afternoon ahead of a cold front. Over much of the eastern U.S., cool and dry conditions will overspread the area, providing fine weather for the cleanup efforts in the Southeast. Over the Pacific Northwest, rain will accompany a weakening Pacific front through Thursday morning with over an inch possible near the coast. Elsewhere in the West, generally quiet conditions should prevail through Thursday. Kong/Campbell Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
