Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 350 PM EDT Mon Oct 19 2015 Valid 00Z Tue Oct 20 2015 - 00Z Thu Oct 22 2015 ...Additional heavy rains possible for the Southwest late Mon-Tue shifting east into the southern-central Rockies and High Plains by Wed... ...Temperatures expected to moderate across the eastern U.S. through the next couple days... Moist and unstable air in combination with an upper level low is expected to produce additional showers and thunderstorms across portions of the Southwest and Great Basin Mon evening into Tue. Some of these storms may produce locally heavy rainfall amounts, resulting in flash flooding concerns. As the upper low slowly spins east, the focus for heavier rains is expected to shift east as well -- moving across the southern-central Rockies and into the High Plains on Wed. Refer to the WPC Excessive Rainfall forecasts for further details concerning the potential for flash flooding across these areas over the next few days. Further to the north, showers and thunderstorms over the northern Rockies are forecast to move out into the northern Great Plains and upper Midwest -- ahead of a developing low pressure center on Tue. Out ahead of the low, a slow moving frontal boundary is expected to provide a focus for generally light precipitation from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. From the lower Mississippi valley to the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states, expect mainly dry conditions. High pressure currently centered over the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states is expected to shift offshore -- allowing southerly winds to bring warmer temperatures back into the region.
