Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 PM EST Wed Nov 11 2015 Valid 00Z Thu Nov 12 2015 - 00Z Sat Nov 14 2015 ***Stormy weather for the central U.S. through Wednesday night*** ***Mostly dry and cold from the Great Plains to the Rocky Mountains*** ***More rain and high mountain snow for the Pacific Northwest*** A well developed surface low tracking northeastward across the Midwest and Great Lakes region will be the main focus of significant precipitation through the end of the work week. Severe thunderstorms are expected through Wednesday evening from eastern Nebraska to the greater Chicago area and extending southward along the Mississippi River ahead of the cold front. By Thursday, there will likely be less severe weather since the amount of wind shear will be less. However, rain is expected for the eastern U.S. on Thursday as the front approaches the East Coast, along with mild temperatures and breezy conditions. After the first significant snow of the season for many areas of the High Plains and Rocky Mountains, a ridge of surface high pressure is expected to persist over the region and result in mostly clear and cold conditions. Across the Pacific Northwest, a slow moving cold front approaching from the Gulf of Alaska is expected to result in heavy rain for parts of Oregon and Washington to close out the week.
