Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 PM EST Mon Nov 16 2015 Valid 00Z Tue Nov 17 2015 - 00Z Thu Nov 19 2015 ***Large storm system to affect the Rockies and central U.S.*** ***Heavy rain and severe thunderstorms from Texas to the Midwest*** ***Mostly sunny and pleasant conditions for much of the eastern U.S.*** A well-developed low pressure system and associated cold front is forecast to cross the Great Plains through Wednesday morning ahead of an amplifying upper-level trough. This system is expected to bring widespread precipitation for much of the central U.S. With colder air moving in behind the cold front, widespread snow and wind is expected Monday night and early Tuesday over much of Colorado, Wyoming, and the western High Plains. Blizzard warnings are in effect for northeastern Colorado, and winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are in effect for much of the central Rockies and parts of the Intermountain West. For the High Plains and central U.S., strong southerly flow ahead of this cold front will advect increasing amounts of moisture over the south-central states and the Midwest. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected through Tuesday night, and some of these storms are likely to become severe. Heavy rainfall on the order of 1 to 4 inches is also expected over the south-central U.S. for the beginning of the week, and widespread flash flood watches are in effect from the central Gulf Coast to Illinois. A large surface high over the eastern U.S. is expected to persist and govern the weather pattern for the East Coast, along with mostly clear skies and seasonally pleasant temperatures through Wednesday, after which rain is expected by Wednesday night.
