Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 249 AM EST Mon Nov 23 2015 Valid 12Z Mon Nov 23 2015 - 12Z Wed Nov 25 2015 ***Unsettled weather returning to the western U.S.*** ***Cold and dry for the eastern U.S.*** A return to a more active weather pattern can be expected for the West Coast and the Intermountain West for the beginning of the week. A strong cold front and pronounced upper level trough will bring noticeably colder temperatures to the Pacific Northwest and northern California by Tuesday morning, and snow levels will drop significantly with widespread accumulating snow for the mountain ranges. Gusty winds can also be expected near the Coast as the pressure gradient increases. For the eastern U.S., the coldest air of the season for many locations has arrived after a strong cold front cleared the coast on Sunday morning. Highs on Monday are not expected to reach 50 degrees for the Mid-Atlantic region and the Northeast, and widespread sub-freezing lows. Temperatures will moderate closer to seasonal averages by the middle of the week. In addition, some lake effect snow showers are likely downwind of the Great Lakes through Tuesday morning.
