Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 203 PM EST Mon Dec 7 2015 Valid 00Z Tue Dec 8 2015 - 00Z Thu Dec 10 2015 ***Periods of rain and mountain snow for the Pacific Northwest*** ***Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms for parts of Florida*** ***Quiet weather across most of the nation*** An active storm track across the northern Pacific is expected to result in unsettled conditions from northern California to the Pacific Northwest through the middle of the week. Multiple frontal systems are forecast to move through the region with a fast upper-level flow pattern in place. An atmospheric river of moisture streaming in from the eastern Pacific will lead to a favorable set-up for heavy rainfall, with 1 to 3 inches likely, and at least a foot of snow for the highest elevations. Gusty winds in excess of 50 mph are possible for the coastal areas along with extremely rough surf. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., things should be rather uneventful as a surface high over both the eastern U.S. and Intermountain West govern the overall weather pattern. A weak cold front is expected to cross the central part of the U.S., and there should be just enough moisture to support scattered areas of light rain through Wednesday from the Upper Midwest to the Northeast. A stationary front near the east coast of Florida will keep scattered showers and storms around through Wednesday. In terms of temperatures, there are no indications of any arctic air intrusions in the near future, with most of the country remaining near or above seasonal averages. D.
