Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 243 AM EST Fri Jan 01 2016 Valid 12Z Fri Jan 01 2016 - 12Z Sun Jan 03 2016 ...Lake effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes... ...Temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees below average over the Southern High Plains and Southern/Central Rockies into the Great Basin... High pressure extending from the Southern High Plains to the Northern Intermountain Region will dominate the weather over the lower forty-eight states through Saturday evening. An upper-level trough over the Great Lakes will have energy passing through the trough on Friday and two weaker impulses on Saturday. Another strong region of upper-level energy will be poised to enter the Great Lakes by Saturday evening. The energy will aid in producing lake effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes through Saturday. Meanwhile, a front over Florida will steadily move southward off the southern tip of Florida by Saturday. Rain will develop along and near the boundary on Friday over parts of the Southeast that will move southward over the peninsula by Saturday morning. In addition, upper-level impulses traveling along a strong upper-level jet will aid in producing rain along the Gulf Coast through Saturday evening.
