Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 355 AM EST Sun Jan 24 2016 Valid 12Z Sun Jan 24 2016 - 12Z Tue Jan 26 2016 ...Heavy snow diminishing for parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast... ...Snow for parts of the Central/Southern Rockies to parts of the Upper Midwest and Upper Great Lakes... Snow is tapering off over the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast as the winter storm system tracks further offshore. This system dumped copious amounts of snow over West Virginia, Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. A few locations came close to, or surpassed all-time 1-day and 2-day snow records. Accumulations of 2 to 3 feet were common, with a few isolated areas in the West Virginia and Maryland panhandles measuring 3.5 feet. In the wake of the storm, high pressure over the Southern Plains/Middle Mississippi Valley will move to the East Coast by Monday morning. Another round of snow is forecast for Upper Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes regions as a low pressure system tracks eastward toward Ontario. Meanwhile, a deep upper-level trough over the West Coast will move eastward to the Plains by Monday morning, while bringing rain to coastal Northwest to central California- with snow at higher elevations. Snow will also develop over the Northern Intermountain Region/Northern Rockies and the Great Basin today and spread into Central Rockies/Northern High Plains by this evening. The snow will continue to expand into parts of the Northern/Central Plains and the Upper Mississippi Valley on into Monday morning.
