Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 258 AM EST Sat Jan 30 2016 Valid 12Z Sat Jan 30 2016 - 12Z Mon Feb 01 2016 ...Heavy snow possible for parts of the Sierras, Central Rockies, and parts of the Great Basin... ...Heavy rain possible for portions of the Southern California... ...Temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees above average from the Plains to the Appalachians... A developing storm over the Central Rockies will move northeastward to the Great Lakes by Sunday evening. The system will produce rain and higher elevation snow over Northern California on Saturday morning into late Saturday night, then becoming more spotty through late Sunday morning. On Sunday additional upper-level energy will move into the Southern California Coast producing heavier rain and higher elevation snow over Southern California into Sunday evening. In addition, snow and lower elevation rain will develop over parts of the Great Basin into parts of the Northern/Central Rockies on Saturday morning through Sunday evening. Overnight Saturday, the area of snow will expand into parts of the Central Plains/Middle Mississippi Valley and into parts of the Great Lakes by Sunday morning through Sunday evening. Rain will also develop over parts of the Western Ohio Valley and into parts of the Great Lakes on Sunday into Sunday evening. Meanwhile, onshore flow off the Pacific will producing Coastal rain and higher elevation snow over parts of the Pacific Northwest/Northern California through Sunday morning when the onshore flow weakens. Additionally, a weakening front over the Upper Great Lakes will aid in produce light snow over parts of the region through Saturday evening.
