Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 241 PM EST Fri Feb 19 2016 Valid 00Z Sat Feb 20 2016 - 00Z Mon Feb 22 2016 ...Snow possible over parts of the Northeast... ...Temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees above average from the Ohio Valley to the Central Plains and over parts of the Southern Plains... Weak onshore flow off the Pacific and upper-level energy will aid in producing rain and higher elevation snow over the Pacific Northwest to Northern/Central California that will continue through late Saturday afternoon. As the upper-level energy moves inland, snow and lower elevation rain will develop over parts of the Northern Intermountain Region/Northern Rockies that will move eastward to the Northern Plains and begin to wane by Sunday. Meanwhile, upper-level energy moving over the Upper Midwest will move off the Northeast Coast by Sunday morning. The storm will produce mostly rain over portions of the Upper Mississippi Valley into the Great Lakes and over parts of the Lower Great Lakes/Northern Mid-Atlantic through Saturday evening. Snow will develop over parts of the Northern Appalachians/Northern New England through Saturday morning that will retreat to parts of Northern Maine by Saturday evening into Sunday. By Saturday morning, light snow will develop over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes that will continues over parts of the Upper Great Lakes through Sunday. In addition, the rain over parts of the Lower Great Lakes/Northern Appalachians will change over to snow overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. Elsewhere, a front extending from the Great Lakes to the Southern High Plains will slowly move eastward off the Northeast Coast by Sunday morning while trailing the boundary westward to parts of the Southern Plains from the Northern Mid-Atlantic. Moisture pooling along the front will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley by Saturday evening and expand eastward along the boundary into parts of the Central Appalachians and westward into parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley by Sunday morning.
