An increasingly amplified pattern will support the development of a strong storm that will impact the southern and eastern U.S. A stationary boundary in place across the south will act as a focus for showers and thunderstorms today. A surface low will develop over central Texas tonight, with showers and thunderstorms overspreading the southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley. The surface low will deepen tomorrow, and warm and humid air will surge northward ahead of the cold front. This will set the stage for strong to severe thunderstorms to develop along the Gulf Coast. Showers and thunderstorms will overspread the South and stretch into the Mid Atlantic and Ohio Valley by the evening. The storm will track northeastward across the Tennessee Valley Wednesday morning. Heavy rain will spread into southern New England and severe weather will be possible from Florida to southern Virginia. Cold air will come in from the northwest and change rain to snow along the northwestern edge of the precipitation from Arkansas to Michigan. See the winter weather page for more details. A mid level disturbance will bring snow showers to the central and southern Rockies tonight. Easterly upslope flow will develop across southeastern Colorado, Northeastern New Mexico, and the Texas/Oklahoma panhandles resulting in light accumulations. See the winter weather page for more details. Krekeler Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
