Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 316 PM EST Sun Mar 06 2016 Valid 00Z Mon Mar 07 2016 - 00Z Wed Mar 09 2016 ...Another round of heavy rain and mountain snow expected for California Sunday evening... ...The threat for severe thunderstorms and flash flooding will increase over the southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley Monday and Tuesday... ...Temperatures will rise to well above normal over the central/northern Plains and Midwest the next few days... Widespread shower activity will continue from the West Coast to the Rockies Sunday night and Monday as multiple disturbances move through aloft. A particularly vigorous disturbance approaching California Sunday evening will bring another round of heavy rain and mountain snow to the coastal ranges of northern California and Sierra Nevada range. The West should get a brief break in precipitation as the vigorous energy dives southeastward towards northern Mexico Monday night. However...an upstream system should begin impacting the Pacific Northwest by Tuesday evening. Showers and thunderstorms will become increasingly numerous ahead of a frontal boundary emerging out of the southern/central Rockies Monday and Tuesday. The slow moving boundary...combined with Gulf moisture surging northward between an amplifying trough in the west and building downstream ridge...will heighten the risk of flash flooding and severe storms across portions of the southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley Monday and Tuesday. Additionally...the upper ridge building in over the central U.S. will keep temperatures well above normal across much of the northern and central Plains on Monday...with warm conditions spreading into the Midwest as the ridge amplifies and shifts eastward on Tuesday.
