Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 317 PM EST Wed Mar 09 2016 Valid 00Z Thu Mar 10 2016 - 00Z Sat Mar 12 2016 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms for parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley and Western Gulf Coast... ...Heavy rain from parts of the Ohio Valley to the Lower Mississippi Valley and parts of the Southern Plains... ...Heavy rain possible for the Pacific Northwest and Northern California... A front extending from the Great Lakes southwestward to the Southern Plains will slowly sink southward to the Mid-Atlantic to the Southern Plains by Friday. The boundary will be draped north of an upper-level low moving eastward out of Mexico into southern portion of Texas by Friday. The upper-level low will also have a boundary over the Western Gulf Coast through Friday. Moisture will pool along the front aiding in the development of showers and thunderstorms from parts of the Southern Plains to parts of the Tennessee Valley through Friday. In addition, rain will develop from parts of the Tennessee Valley to the Great Lakes that will move slowly southward into the Northeast by Thursday moving to the Mid-Atlantic to the Tennessee Valley by Friday. Meanwhile, a front off the West Coast will move eastward to the Northern Plains to the Great Basin to Northern California by Friday. The system will produce rain from parts of the Pacific Northwest to Northern/Central California and snow over parts of the Northern/Central Rockies on Wednesday evening. The rain will continue over the Pacific Northwest through late Thursday night. Rain will also continue over Northern/Central California through Friday. Snow levels will rise to the higher elevations of the Northern Rockies overnight Wednesday and will continue to snow over parts of the Northern Rockies through Friday, too.
