A strong Pacific cold front will continue east and southward from the Northwest and central and northern Rockies reaching the Plains states by early Tuesday. The front will continue eastward with cool air spreading south and eastward from the Midwest across the Lower Mississippi Valley,southern Plains and Southwest. By Thursday, the front will move off the East Coast into the Southeast but will be accompanied by only cool conditions for the time of year. Across the western states, cool unstable conditions will allow for scattered showers and mountain snow with some locally heavy amounts across the higher elevations of the central and northern Rockies. Along the leading edge of the cooler airmass, an area of low pressure will intensify into a fairly significant storm system with moderate to heavy rainfall possible across the Upper Mississippi Valley into the Upper Midwest while rain changes to snow across northern Minnesota and Wisconsin by Wednesday. Occasional rain across the Ohio Valley and cool easterly flow off the Atlantic will mean damp and dreary weather for the Mid Atlantic and New England through Tuesday and Wednesday with some snow possible across northern Maine on Wednesday night.
