Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 435 PM EDT Mon Mar 28 2016 Valid 00Z Tue Mar 29 2016 - 00Z Thu Mar 31 2016 ...Heavy snow for parts of the Central Rockies and Great Basin... ...Severe storms and heavy rain for the south central states... An upper-level low over the Northwest will sink southward to the Great Basin/Central Rockies by Tuesday. This storm system is expected to generate widespread showers and heavy mountain snow from the Sierra Nevada to the Central Rockies, with some locations receiving up to two feet of snow at the higher elevations, especially over the mountainous terrain of Wyoming. Windy conditions are also expected with gusts up to 50 mph at times. As the system moves eastward, moisture from the western Gulf of Mexico will stream northward over the Plains on Tuesday. With the low pressure system emerging over the central U.S., widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of Texas on Tuesday afternoon, and expanding in coverage across parts of the Deep South by Wednesday. Some severe thunderstorms are also expected to develop ahead of the dry line over the southern Plains. Pleasant spring weather is expected to continue for the East Coast.
