A strong storm over the Great Basin will move northeastward to the Middle Mississippi Valley/Central Plains by Wednesday evening. The system will produce snow and lower elevation rain over parts of the Great Basin and Northern/Central Rockies and expanding into parts of the Northern/Central High Plains on Wednesday. Overnight Tuesday, rain will develop over parts of the Northern Plains and moving into the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes by Wednesday morning. Over the Upper Great Lakes, the precipitation will start out as snow but change over to rain on Wednesday morning. Moisture from the Western Gulf of Mexico will move northward over the Plains on Tuesday moving into the Mississippi Valley on Wednesday and the Great Lakes by Wednesday evening. Showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Western/Central Gulf Coast and over parts of the Central Plains by Tuesday morning. As the moisture increases and the associated front begins to move onto Plains, showers and thunderstorms will move into the Southern/Central Plains and expand into the Middle/Lower Mississippi Valley by Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, upper-level energy moving over parts of the Northeast will produce light snow over the region ending by Tuesday evening. Elsewhere, a lingering boundary and upper-level energy will produce showers and thunderstorms over parts of Southern Florida through Wednesday evening.
