Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 238 PM EDT Sun Apr 24 2016 Valid 00Z Mon Apr 25 2016 - 00Z Wed Apr 27 2016 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central Plains... ....Heavy rain possible from Upper Mississippi Valley and the northern Great Lakes... Low pressure over the northern Plains will drift slowly eastward toward the Great Lakes. A quasi-stationary frontal boundary extending from the low toward the Northeast will be the focus for showers and thunderstorms, with the heaviest rainfall expected across portions of the Upper Mississippi Valley and northern Great Lakes. Severe weather will be possible today across a portion of the central Plains. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of the cold front crossing the region. Another cold front crossing the Intermountain West today will bring wet and unsettled weather to much of the western U.S. into Tuesday. Onshore flow in the Pacific Northwest behind the front will allow for scattered rain showers into Monday morning. As the front pushes toward the Plains precipitation will increase across the Great Basin and Central/Northern Rockies. Snow is expected across the higher elevations.
