Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 311 AM EDT Fri May 6 2016 Valid 12Z Fri May 6 2016 - 12Z Sun May 8 2016 ...Closed upper level lows near both coasts and a high pressure ridge over the central U.S. will govern the overall weather pattern... An omega block pattern aloft has become established over the continental U.S. and this will be rather slow to change over the next few days. Well defined upper level lows are evident over southern California and near the Mid-Atlantic coast at the beginning of the forecast period, and a large upper level ridge over the Plains. By Sunday morning, the pattern should not be quite as amplified with less ridging over the central U.S. However, there will still be an upper level low over the western U.S. and a trough near the East Coast. In terms of sensible weather, temperatures are expected to be unseasonably cool from the Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast with mostly cloudy skies and periods of rain from an oceanic low nearby. The same also holds true across much of the West coast region with below normal temperatures likely to continue through the end of the week, along with numerous showers and high elevation snow. The place with warm and mostly sunny conditions will be the central and northern Plains, with widespread highs in the 70s and 80s expected. A cold front sagging southward will bring temperatures closer to normal across the Dakotas and the Upper Midwest by this weekend. D.
