Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 401 PM EDT Fri May 06 2016 Valid 00Z Sat May 07 2016 - 00Z Mon May 09 2016 ...Heavy rain and highest elevation snow over the Sierras... ...Heavy rain and highest elevation snow over the Wind River, Big Horn, and Laramie Mountains in Wyoming... ...The temperature will be 10 to 15 degrees below average over the Southwest and parts of California... Upper-level low over the Mid-Atlantic will slowly weekend and move out over the Western Atlantic by overnight Saturday. Rain will develop from parts of Northern New England/Northern Appalachians southward to the Carolinas/Central Appalachians on Friday evening that will end over the Carolinas and Central Appalachians by Saturday afternoon. The rain will continue over parts of the Northern Appalachians/New England through Saturday night when the precipitation will merge with the system moving eastward from the Great Lakes. Meanwhile, another upper-level low over California will the Central Rockies/Great Basin by Sunday morning. The system will produce rain with embedded thunderstorms from California to parts of the Northern/Central Rockies and the Southwest continuing over parts of the Central/Northern Rockies and parts of the Great Basin/California through Sunday morning. The rain with e An omega block pattern aloft has become established over the continental U.S. and this will be rather slow to change over the next few days. Well defined upper level lows are evident over southern California and near the Mid-Atlantic coast at the beginning of the forecast period, and a large upper level ridge over the Plains. By Sunday morning, the pattern should not be quite as amplified with less ridging over the central U.S. However, there will still be an upper level low over the western U.S. and a trough near the East Coast. In terms of sensible weather, temperatures are expected to be unseasonably cool from the Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast with mostly cloudy skies and periods of rain from an oceanic low nearby. The same also holds true across much of the West coast region with below normal temperatures likely to continue through the end of the week, along with numerous showers and high elevation snow. The place with warm and mostly sunny conditions will be the central and northern Plains, with widespread highs in the 70s and 80s expected. A cold front sagging southward will bring temperatures closer to normal across the Dakotas and the Upper Midwest by this weekend.
