Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 353 AM EDT Thu May 12 2016 Valid 12Z Thu May 12 2016 - 12Z Sat May 14 2016 ...Colder weather returning to many areas by the end of the week... A pattern change is expected to emerge through the end of the work week with a pair of cold fronts passing through the central and eastern U.S. and Canadian high pressure building in. The departure of the occluded surface low north of the Great Lakes will generate northerly winds that will advect the colder temperatures southward. A pristine and refreshing airmass will be enjoyed by many from the northern Plains to the Ohio Valley by the time Friday arrives, with temperatures feeling like fall. Frost will even be possible from the Dakotas to the upper Great Lakes by Thursday night. It will continue to be warm and humid south and east of the first cold front from Texas to the Carolinas. Widespread highs in the 80s along with noticeable humidity will be commonplace over this region, with even some 90s possible across parts of southern Texas. West of the Rocky Mountains, a quiet weather pattern should prevail through Friday evening before scattered showers arrive ahead of a weak Pacific storm system near the Oregon and Washington coasts. Inland temperatures should slowly return closer to average after the recent cool weather. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
