Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 PM EDT Tue May 24 2016 Valid 00Z Wed May 25 2016 - 00Z Fri May 27 2016 ...scattered thunderstorms continue across much of the Plains and into the Midwest... ...Rain showers will give way to summer-like conditions in the East... A slow-moving low pressure system continues to provide showers and thunderstorms over New England this Tuesday afternoon. These showers are expected to taper off tonight as the low slowly moves eastward out into the Atlantic and dissipates. In the wake of this system, summer-like conditions are expected to overspread much of the Eastern Seaboard as afternoon temperatures are forecast to rise well up into the 80's to near 90 degrees. Along with the warm temperatures will be a gradual increase in humidity. Meanwhile, impulses associated with an upper-level trough are forecast to continue interacting with a nearly stationary front across the Plains states. The first impulse will trigger showers and thunderstorms in the central Plains tonight which will gradually spread into the northern Plains, the Midwest and the mid-Mississippi Valley during the next couple of days. The second impulse is forecast to trigger the formation of a new low center in the central High Plains later on Wednesday. This will increase the chance of more showers and thunderstorms to form in the central and southern Plains on Thursday ahead of a stationary front. Out West, scattered rain showers mixing with snow in the higher elevations can be expected from across the Great Basin into the central and northern Rockies ahead of the upper-level trough through Thursday. Some snow is also expected in the Sierra Nevada through tonight. Moisture will continue to linger in the Pacific Northwest. Elsewhere, dry conditions are expected for the rest of the Desert Southwest. Kong Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
