Tropical Storm Bonnie is forecast by the National Hurricane Center to make landfall along the South Carolina coast today, before weakening to a tropical depression and moving slowly northeastward along the coast of the Carolinas through midweek. Bonnie will produce widespread showers and thunderstorms today across areas from the Carolinas to the Mid-Atlantic today, spreading into the Northeast by late afternoon. Heavy rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are forecast, and flash flooding is possible. Rain and thunderstorms will persist across these areas into Monday, before a cold front sweeps in Monday night into Tuesday, ending precipitation across most of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Bonnie may continue to bring thunderstorms to the Carolinas into Tuesday. Farther west, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible today across the central and southern plains. Storms may be more numerous this afternoon and evening ahead of a dry line across western Texas and Oklahoma. The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a slight risk of severe thunderstorms today and tonight across portions of the southern plains. Additionally, locally heavy rain and flash flooding are possible. A Pacific cold front will move across the Intermountain West today, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to much of the interior western U.S. On Monday and Tuesday this frontal system will move into the plains, with numerous showers and thunderstorms expected.
