Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 354 AM EDT Wed Jun 01 2016 Valid 12Z Wed Jun 01 2016 - 12Z Fri Jun 03 2016 ...Remnants of Bonnie will linger along coastal areas of the Carolinas, heavy rain and flash flooding possible... ...Heavy rain and possible flash flooding over the Southern Plains... A low pressure system will slowly move through the central U.S., spreading showers and thunderstorms across portions of the central/northern Plains and the Upper Midwest. The cold front is forecast to be moving through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions by Saturday morning. A second low pressure system will exit the northern Rockies and move east through the northern Plains bringing additional showers to the northern tier. Coastal North Carolina and surrounding offshore areas will have periods of heavy rain as the remnants of Bonnie stays near coast - rainfall amount will likely range from 1 to 3 inches for this region. The southern extent of this system/cold front will sage southward through the southern Plains. Circulation around the upper-level low will aid in streaming moisture from the Gulf of Mexico northward over the Southern Plains through Thursday morning. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop over portions of the central/southern High Plains and the Southern Plains through Friday. Numerous thunderstorms will move over the same track, ultimately leading to heavy rainfall and increasing the threat of flash flooding over the southern Plains and lower Mississippi valley. Much of the Texas and southern Oklahoma will be rather wet through the end of the work week. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 4 inches will be common, with locally higher totals possible. Elsewhere, a plume of moisture from the Pacific will begin to stream into parts of the Pacific Northwest producing rain over parts of the Northwest Coast this evening into Thursday.
