The weather pattern across the continental U.S. will amplify with an upper level ridge over the western U.S. and a developing trough east of the Mississippi River. An intensifying surface low over the Great Lakes region Sunday morning is forecast to cross Ontario and Quebec, and will bring a pair of cold fronts across the central and eastern states. A quality air mass by June standards is expected across the northern tier of the nation by Monday behind the secondary front with low dewpoints and comfortable afternoon temperatures. Localized flooding will continue to be problematic for some areas. Very hot temperatures will be the main weather story out West through Monday with a strong upper level ridge in place. Temperatures well above 100 degrees are forecast for the lower deserts of central and southern California, Arizona, and Nevada. Unseasonal heat is also expected for inland areas of the Pacific Northwest on Sunday before cooler weather arrives by early in the week. Additional record highs are likely.
