Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 PM EDT Fri Jun 10 2016 Valid 00Z Sat Jun 11 2016 - 00Z Mon Jun 13 2016 ...Heat and humidity returns to the eastern states this weekend... ...Strong to severe thunderstorms possible from the northern High Plains eastward into Northeast before a strong push of cool air arrives from Canada... After a couple of days of pleasantly cool weather, very warm and more humid air will spread eastward from the Midwest into the Mid-Atlantic region this weekend. High temperatures on Saturday are forecast to soar into the 90's with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. By Sunday, a rather strong cold front will be pushing steadily southward from eastern Canada where a low pressure system is forecast to deepen. Rain will signal the arrival of the cool air over New England but hot weather should continue from the mid-Atlantic southward prior to the arrival of the cold front. Thunderstorms could become strong in the vicinity of the cold front from the Great Lakes eastward to southern New England during the weekend. Along the Gulf Coast and Florida, numerous showers and thunderstorms are forecast to persist near a stalled frontal boundary. The boundary will nudge northward and slowly dissipate during the weekend. By contrast, a strong high pressure ridge anchored over the mid-section of the country is expected to provide hot and dry conditions across the central Plains and portions of the Deep South through the weekend. Residual instability combined with daytime heating is expected to trigger showers and thunderstorms across portions of the central and southern Rockies from late afternoon into the evening during the weekend. An approaching upper-level low from the Pacific will help generate another round of convection across the Pacific Northwest, Intermountain West and the Northern Rockies/surrounding areas. The Storm Prediction Center has identified eastern Montana with an enhanced risk and the western half of the Dakotas as having a slight risk for the development of very strong to severe thunderstorms this weekend.
