Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 AM EDT Sun Jun 12 2016 Valid 12Z Sun Jun 12 2016 - 12Z Tue Jun 14 2016 ...Cooler, drier air to return to the East Coast... ...Strong to Severe thunderstorms possible in the northern Plains, Central Rockies and central Plains through Tuesday... Cooler air will surge into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states today as a cold front pushes through. The cooler temperatures will decrease the humidity along the Eastern Seaboard. Some showers and thunderstorms can be expected as the cold front passes, albeit rain amounts will be light, if any. A lingering boundary will maintain the showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Coast and the Florida, but will dissipate early in the work week as the boundary diminishes. Hot and dry conditions will persist across the central Plains and Deep South under the dome of high pressure. A strong ridge anchored over the central U.S. will keep hot and dry conditions over the next few days for the central Plains and portions of the Deep South. An upper-level low approaching from the Pacific Northwest will trigger the formation of a low pressure system in the northern High Plains near a stationary boundary. Strong convection is expected to develop ahead of the the low and will spread eastward toward the Upper Midwest on Monday. The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk out for portions of the northern Plains/Upper Midwest today. Residual instability combined with daytime heating is expected to trigger showers and thunderstorms across portions of the central and southern Rockies from late afternoon into the evening through Monday. An enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms encompasses areas east of the Front Range in eastern Colorado, western Nebraska and western Kansas.
