Showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours, will persist over the Lower Mississippi Valley and Southeast through midweek. Scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms will also occur from the Upper Midwest/Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic region as a warm front lifts through the Upper Mississippi Valley and a cold front pushes southward through the Mid-Atlantic states. Strong to severe thunderstorms are likely to develop over the Midwest today, shifting toward the Lower Great Lakes and Ohio Valley on Thursday. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a slight risk from northeast Kansas to southern Minnesota, with and enhanced risk over Iowa today. For Wednesday, the slight risk expands into the Ohio Valley with the enhanced area covering northern Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and southern Michigan. Additionally, a front over the Northern Intermountain Region/Great Basin will move eastward to the Northern High Plains/Great Basin by Wednesday. Rain over the Pacific Northwest will spread eastward in the Intermountain West and northern High Plains. Additionally, onshore flow off the Pacific will aid in producing rain over parts of the Pacific Northwest Coast Tuesday into Wednesday.
