Heavy rains with embedded strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible from the Central Plains to the Ohio Valley this weekend. On Saturday...the greatest chance for flash flooding will be across Kansas and into Missouri...where anomalous low level moisture ahead of a broad shortwave edging eastward out of the Four Corners states will interact with a frontal boundary lingering through the region. By Sunday...the threat for flash flooding and possible severe storms should shift into portions of the Ohio Valley as the lingering frontal boundary surges northward as warm front. Locations from the Great Lakes to the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic states will be pleasantly dry and comfortable behind a cold front clearing the New England coast early Saturday. However...the southern portion of front will serve as a focus for shower and thunderstorm activity the next few days as it struggles to push through the Carolinas and Southeast. Out west...another day of diurnally driven shower activity is expected across the Four Corners states on Saturday but then activity should diminish a bit by Sunday as ridging attempts to build in aloft. Also...a series of cold fronts crossing the Northwest will lower temperatures across the region and bring a chance of showers to the Washington coast and Northern Rockies and adjacent High Plains.
