Another very cool airmass is likely for the Northwest with showers and even mountain snow by Saturday morning... Typical summertime conditions will exist over much of the southern two thirds of the country, with heat and humidity interrupted by thunderstorms, which are likely across a wide part of the Upper Mississippi Valley, the Midwest, Ohio Valley and across the Appalachians and Northeast into Saturday morning. Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees especially across western Texas, eastern New Mexico into Oklahoma. While the East Coast remains hot and humid through Friday, a series of fronts will move across parts of the northern tier of states. One weak front will cross the Midwest on Thursday while relatively cool to mild conditions affect the Northern Plains to the Upper Mississippi Valley into the Midwest. Meanwhile, an upper level disturbance moving across the northern tier of states will consolidate an area of low pressure over the Central Plains states through Thursday morning and move east northeastward across the Upper Mississippi Valley and toward the Midwest by Friday morning. This system will then continue eastward across the Northeast on Friday into Saturday morning. this system will generate the widespread showers and thunderstorms from the Plains eastward across the Midwest to the Northeast from Thursday to Saturday morning. Some of the rainfall could be locally heavy with 1 to 2 inch amounts common in some of the heavier storms. This system will also usher in some cooler and drier air across the Northern and Central Plains and across the Midwest later Friday into early Saturday. An even stronger upper level low will advance toward the Northwest coast on Friday into Saturday spreading showers and cool temperatures with snow possible in the higher elevations of the Cascades.
