Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 322 PM EDT Tue Jul 12 2016 Valid 00Z Wed Jul 13 2016 - 00Z Fri Jul 15 2016 ...Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall possible across portions of the plains and Mississippi valley... ...Below average temperatures expected from the northern Rockies to the northern plains... A stationary frontal boundary will linger across the central U.S. into Wednesday before a reinforcing cold front moves south across the northern and central plains and overtakes the stationary boundary. The result will be areas of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across areas from the southern/central plains to the mid-Mississippi valley and Great Lakes through Wednesday. Some thunderstorms could produce severe weather and heavy rainfall. Please refer to products issued by the Storm Prediction Center for further details on the severe weather threat. By Thursday the reinvigorated cold front will move across the Great Lakes, spreading showers and thunderstorms into the Appalachians and the Northeast. Farther south, scattered showers and storms will be possible across the southeastern U.S. through Thursday as a moist and unstable air mass remains in place. Behind the cold front, a cooler air mass will move into the northern plains and Upper Midwest. High temperatures on Wednesday are forecast to be 5 to 15 degrees below average from the northern Rockies to the northern plains. On Thursday these cooler temperatures will spread into the Upper Midwest. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible across these areas as a series of fast-moving upper-level disturbances traverse the region.
