Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Mid Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley along and ahead of a cold front approaching the region. Some locally heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding from Eastern Kansas, Missouri, and Southern Illinois. With the main surface low and the bulk of the upper level energy moving into Northern Ontario, the front will slow and become nearly stationary across the Central Plains by tomorrow evening. An unstable airmass ahead of the boundary is expected to fuel thunderstorm development tomorrow afternoon, with severe weather possible across parts of the Central Plains. Again, locally heavy rainfall could lead to some flash flooding issues from southern Kansas, northern Oklahoma, southwest Missouri, and into Northwest Arkansas. The northern extent of the front will push through the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley with showers out ahead of the front. Behind the cold front, cooler air will sweep south and east across the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains where temperatures could be more than 10 degrees below normal highs for this time of year. By the weekend, the cooler weather will have spread to the Central Plains, Mid Mississippi Valley, and Great Lakes. Krekeler Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
