Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 320 PM EDT Sat Jul 16 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Jul 17 2016 - 00Z Tue Jul 19 2016 ...Severe weather and some localized flash flooding could affect the Northern Plains through the Midwest from late Saturday into Monday... Hot and humid conditions remain across the southern into the central United States... ...The Northwest remains cool and showery while one weak front nears and weakens along the East Coast while another front brings cooler drier air to the Plains, Upper Mississippi Valley and Midwest on Sunday and Monday and early Tuesday... Several weak upper level disturbances will cross the north central US and help increase the risk for heavy thunderstorms, severe weather and even flash flooding. The area at risk especially includes the Dakotas, southern Minnesota, Iowa and northern Illinois, where rainfall could exceed 2 inches. Hot weather will build across the southern and central United States with temperatures rising into the 90s and approaching 100 degrees. Along the western area of the hot temperatures, moisture from the eastern Pacific will move northward into the Southwest and the Central Rockies with thundershowers peaking late in the afternoon or early evening. One weak cold front will reach the East Coast, stall and weaken with scattered showers and thundershowers along the East Coast on late Friday and continuing across New England into Sunday evening. Another cold front associated with the heavy rains and severe weather across the north central states will combine with a separate cold front dropping southward from Canada to provide some cooler temperatures and drier conditions from the Northern Plains across the Midwest on Monday into early Tuesday.
