Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 422 AM EDT Mon Jul 18 2016 Valid 12Z Mon Jul 18 2016 - 12Z Wed Jul 20 2016 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Eastern Ohio Valley to Northern New England... A front extending from the Great Lakes southwestward to the Central High Plains will move eastward to just off the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Coast by Tuesday morning moving off the Southern Mid-Atlantic Coast overnight Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the boundary from the Great Lakes to the Middle Mississippi Valley and parts of the Central Plains that will move eastward to the Northeast to Western Ohio Valley/Middle Mississippi Valley by Monday evening, moving off the Northeast Coast by Tuesday morning. The showers and thunderstorms will continue from the Mid-Atlantic, likewise, to the Western Ohio Valley/Middle Mississippi Valley through Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, a wave of low pressure over the Northern Intermountain Region will move northeastward to the Northern Plains by Tuesday evening. The low will pull the western end of the aforementioned front northeastward into the Northern Plains to the Middle Mississippi Valley on Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Northern Rockies/Northern High Plains that will expand into parts of the Central High Plains and into the Pacific Northwest by Monday evening. The showers and thunderstorms will move into the Northern Plains into the Middle Mississippi Valley by Tuesday morning, while tapering off to a relative minimum in areal coverage overnight Monday over the Pacific Northwest into the Northern Intermountain Region. The showers and thunderstorms will continue along and near the boundary over the Northern Plains to the Middle Mississippi Valley through Tuesday evening. With the daytime heating, the showers and thunderstorms will pickup again over the Pacific Northwest into the Northern Rockies by Tuesday evening. In the meantime, moisture rich air over the Gulf Coast States and daytime heating will trigger showers and thunderstorms along the Western Gulf Coast to the Southeast with a maximum in areal coverage during the afternoon into the late evening on Monday and Tuesday. Monsoonal moisture along with weak upper-level impulses and diurnal heating will produce showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southwest/Eastern Great Basin and the Central/Southern Rockies on Monday afternoon into late evening. Analogously, the showers and thunderstorms will again develop over parts of the Southwest/Eastern Great Basin and the Central/Southern Rockies on Tuesday afternoon into the late evening.
