Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 354 AM EDT Tue Aug 2 2016 Valid 12Z Tue Aug 2 2016 - 12Z Thu Aug 4 2016 ...Heavy rain possible for the Southwest U.S. and also for the southeastern states... A cold front and occluded surface low will continue moving eastward across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest over the next few days. Showers and strong thunderstorms are likely ahead of this front. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will likely occur from the northern Plains/Upper Midwest to the southeast coast for the next few days. A frontal boundary is draped across these regions and will serve as a lifting mechanism for showers and storms, with the greatest coverage of bad weather expected over the eastern Carolinas with the front stalling out. Monsoonal moisture will continue to surge across the Desert Southwest through the middle of the week. Afternoon heating and orographic forcing will help fire off numerous showers and storms. Some of the locally heavy rainfall from slow moving storms could result in some flooding issues, with the greatest rainfall expected over central and eastern Arizona with amounts in excess of two inches possible by Wednesday night. The Pacific Northwest should have periods of shower activity move across the region on Tuesday. By Tuesday evening, most of the showers will move into southern Canada. It will also turn cooler for this region with an upper level low passing overhead. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
