Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 400 PM EDT Fri Aug 05 2016 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 06 2016 - 00Z Mon Aug 08 2016 ...Showers behind a stationary front will keep temperatures cooler than normal in the central U.S.... ...Heavy rain and flash flooding possible for the Four-Corners region in the southern Rockies... ...Locally heavy rains expected to linger in the southeastern U.S. through the weekend... A cold front currently across the Great Lakes will move steadily to the south and east through New England and the Mid-Atlantic region during the weekend. Thunderstorms ahead of the front could be strong but they are not expected to reach severe levels. Cooler and drier air will overspread much of New England, down into the Mid-Atlantic, and will continue over the Midwest into the northern Plains. The front will become slow-moving as it makes its way farther south towards the southeastern U.S. where moisture from the previous front has been lingering. An upper-level low from the Bahamas is forecast to move westward and begins to interact with the moisture in the southeastern U.S. over the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms there will be re-invigorated and could lead to flooding issues, especially in northern Florida during the weekend. Out west, a series of weak upper level disturbances interacting with monsoonal moisture are expected to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms across the Four-Corners region in the southern Rockies. The threat for flash flooding will be elevated this evening and early tomorrow before the disturbances move off to the northeast into the central Plains. A cold front will form and move across the Intermountain West this weekend, bringing cooler temperatures and showers to much of the region. The front is forecast to cross the Northern Rockies by Sunday. Kong Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
