Anomalously high moisture associated with a lingering surface low across the Gulf Coast states will continue to fuel tropical rains across the region the next couple of days. WPC has highlighted a moderate to high risk for excessive rainfall/flash flooding for eastern and southern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and coastal Alabama where two day rainfall amounts of 3 to 8 inches is possible, with locally higher amounts likely. Flood and flash flood watches and warnings remain in effect. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue along and near a cold front as it pushes eastward across the Midwest the next couple of days. Heavy to excessive rainfall is possible all along the boundary from the southern Plains to the upper Great Lakes tonight and through Friday. By Saturday, widespread showers and storms will expand into the Ohio Valley, northern Mid-Atlantic and New England with heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding possible. Elsewhere, mainly diurnally driven precipitation will continue each day across portions of the Southwest and much of Florida. Very warm temperatures are also expected across much of the Western U.S., the southern Plains, and the Northeast where afternoon high temps could be 5 to 10 degrees above normal.
