Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 348 PM EDT Mon Aug 15 2016 Valid 00Z Tue Aug 16 2016 - 00Z Thu Aug 18 2016 ...Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected from the Gulf Coast to New England over the next couple of days... Widespread moderate to heavy rain will be the main weather story through the middle of the week. A stalled frontal boundary stretching from Texas to the Ohio Valley will provide a focusing mechanism for numerous showers and storms. Although the worst appears to be over for flood-ravaged Louisiana, some additional rain appears likely there, with a deep surge of moisture coming off the Gulf of Mexico. The heaviest rainfall through Wednesday is expected over central Texas and also over southern Michigan. Flash flooding and river flooding are both a significant concern over the next few days. South of the frontal zone, it will continue to be hot and humid, but not quite as oppressive as this past weekend was for much of the East Coast. Highs in the 90s and dewpoints in the 70s will be commonplace, producing heat indices near 105 degrees during peak afternoon heating. Isolated to scattered afternoon and evening storms are also expected. Across the western U.S., a cold front is expected to cross the Canadian border by Wednesday afternoon and eventually bring a cooler and refreshing change towards the end of the week. Scattered showers and storms can be expected over the Intermountain West each afternoon. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
