Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 250 PM EDT Thu Aug 18 2016 Valid 00Z Fri Aug 19 2016 - 00Z Sun Aug 21 2016 ...Hot and humid weather continues across the southern and eastern states through the end of the week... ...Cold front brings refreshing change from the northern Rockies to the Upper Midwest... The East Coast of the U.S. remains under the influence of the Bermuda High and thus hot and humid weather is expected to continue through the remainder of the week and into the weekend, albeit not as sultry as earlier in the week. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop each afternoon across the Deep South and towards the Southeast Coast, and less activity across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states. By the end of the week, a refreshing change in the weather will come to residents of the north-central U.S. behind a rather well-defined cold front with a Canadian surface high building in behind it. This quality airmass will feel more like early fall with highs in the 60s and 70s, and crisp morning lows in the 40s and 50s. The same can't be said for much of the Pacific Northwest, where heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are currently in effect. Ahead of this front across the central and southern Plains, multiple rounds of thunderstorm activity are likely. Some severe storms are likely from the central Plains to the Upper Midwest on Friday, and locally heavy rainfall is also expected.
