Cooler and drier air associated with a high pressure system will continue to overspread across the northern and central U.S. towards the East Coast. Showers and thunderstorms ahead of the cold front will steadily push eastward across the Great Lakes, Ohio and Tennessee Valleys this evening into the East Coast on Sunday before very pleasant weather for August arrives on Monday. The tail end of the front will become nearly stationary across Texas where thunderstorms could affect the same general areas, leading to areas of flash flooding. The threat of heavy rain is expected to continue through the weekend over central Texas before the front slowly dissipates by Monday. Meanwhile, the last rounds of the showers and thunderstorms associated with the cold front should move across New England on Monday. In the Pacific Northwest, excessive heat is expected to be in the interior section where readings could reach the century mark this afternoon. Thereafter, a cold front is forecast to gradually push across the region, dropping temperatures to below normal by Sunday and on into Monday. The warm air will spread eastward into the northern Rockies on Sunday and into northern Plains on Monday ahead of the cold front. Meanwhile, scattered monsoonal showers and thunderstorms will prevail across the southern Rockies, especially in the late afternoon to early evening hours through Monday.
