Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 349 PM EDT Fri Aug 26 2016 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 27 2016 - 00Z Mon Aug 29 2016 ...Showers and thunderstorms expected across the central Plains and Midwest... ...Hot and humid conditions continue across much of the southern and eastern states ... ...Warm and dry for the West Coast states... ********************** High pressure will remain anchored over the Southeast through the weekend; which will keep hot and humid conditions across much of the South and the East. A shortwave trough and associated low pressure system will pass through the northern Plains before lifting northward over Canada. At the same time, a warm front will lift through the central Plains and the Midwest. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of this systems - especially across the Upper Midwest and Midwest where multiple rounds will move through. Some of these storms may become severe across the Midwest, potentially producing periods of heavy rainfall. The risk for flash flooding will be elevated through Saturday morning - a slight risk for excessive rainfall is in effect from western Kansas to western Illinois. Showers and thunderstorms will also be possible across the central Gulf Coast and the Florida, especially during the afternoons and evenings. Warm and dry conditions are expected for most of the West this weekend. A few diurnal showers and thunderstorms are forecast near the four-corners region.
