Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 353 PM EDT Sat Aug 27 2016 Valid 00Z Sun Aug 28 2016 - 00Z Tue Aug 30 2016 ...Showers and thunderstorms expected across the central Plains and Midwest... ...Hot and humid conditions will persist for the southern and eastern states... ...West Coast states will continue to be warm and dry... The upper ridge anchored over the the central and eastern U.S. will slowly weaken as a progressive shortwave trough passing through the Canadian Prairie and the northern tier states. A low pressure system will cross the Rockies by Sunday morning and drag a cold front through the northern Plains and a warm front will lift through the Upper Midwest. By Monday evening the cold front will be advancing toward the Upper Great Lakes region. Multiple rounds of shower and thunderstorm activity will likely span from Oklahoma to the Great Lakes. Portions of Oklahoma and Kansas could see 1 to 2 inches of rainfall over the next couple of days. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected near the western Gulf Coast and southern/eastern Florida Coast through the weekend. Accumulations up to 4 and 5 inches are likely for these locations. Convective activity will increase during the afternoon and evening hours. Warm and dry conditions are expected for most of the West this weekend. A few diurnal showers and thunderstorms are forecast for New Mexico and portions of the southern Rockies. Late-summer heat and humidity will persist across much of eastern half of the U.S. through the weekend, with widespread highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s, and lows in the 70s. Some locations may get close to heat advisory criteria at times, but not as intense as the heat was earlier this month.
