According to the forecasts from the National Hurricane Center, two tropical depressions are expected to develop into tropical storms on Tuesday. One system is expected to skirt the outer banks of North Carolina with some possible heavy showers and gusty winds. The other system in the Gulf of Mexico poses more widespread impacts as it is forecast to turn northward west of Florida and then come close to the northwest coast of Florida by Thursday morning. Heavy rain is expected across portions of the Florida peninsula through this period. A persistent flow of moisture northeastward from the Northeast Pacific across northwestern Mexico across New Mexico, northern Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri is expected to bring scattered showers and thundershowers to the region, with some of the activity heavy enough to produce scattered flash flooding. A front over the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes to the Northern Plains will move eastward to the Northern Appalachians/Lower Great Lakes/Ohio Valley with scattered showers and thundershowers accompanying the frontal passage. Behind the front, cooler and drier air will begin to work its way south and eastward across the Upper Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes late on Wednesday into early Thursday. This will likely be the start of some welcome cooler and drier air for parts of the eastern United States that could last past Thursday. Meanwhile, hot temperatures are expected to occur especially across Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and parts of North Dakota with temperatures expected to reach well into the 90s. Cooler temperatures and showers are expected to return to the coastal sections of Washington and Oregon. Kocin Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
