Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 PM EDT Fri Sep 09 2016 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 10 2016 - 00Z Mon Sep 12 2016 ...Threats of severe storms and flash flooding will be possible through Saturday morning over parts of the central Plains and Middle Mississippi valley... ...Severe weather and flash flooding will be a concern for the Ohio Valley and the lower Great Lakes on Saturday... ...Summer heat to continue in the East through the first half of the weekend... A strong cold front moving across the central Plains toward the Mississippi Valley will be the primary focus for convection through Saturday morning. Deep moisture will stream in from the Gulf of Mexico ahead of the front. This will help set off a line of thunderstorms, some of which could be severe and can produce flash flooding. Both of these threats will be across portions of the central Plains along with the Middle Mississippi Valley. As the cold front begins to dip into the southern Plains, flash flooding across northeastern Oklahoma will also be a concern. As the front continues to progress east and south on Saturday, the line of showers and thunderstorms will follow suit. Areas from the Great Lakes down into west and deep south Texas can expect convection on Saturday. However, the heavier rainfall will concentrate across the Great Lakes and portions of the Ohio Valley. In addition to the threat of flash flooding, severe weather will also be a concern for these regions. As the front quickly approaches the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, expect showers and thunderstorms to move through. The Southeast and western/central Gulf Coast will receive scattered thunderstorms along and ahead of the front especially during the afternoon with the help of daytime heating, with a marginal risk for flash flooding in the Carolinas. For the most up to date information pertaining to severe weather, visit the Storm Prediction Center. Meanwhile, the heat across the East Coast will continue through Saturday as dry, hot air filters through the region. However, cooler air behind the strong cold front impacting the Plains and Mississippi Valley will bring relief. Monsoonal moisture will be ushered across the Southwest and southern/central Rockies once again by Sunday--expect isolated to scattered thunderstorms especially during the late afternoon/evening hours. Finally, an easterly wave will bring tropical moisture across south/southwest Florida today through Saturday. Expect showers and thunderstorms to increase by Saturday--especially across southwest Florida. The western and central Gulf Coast will also see an increase in thunderstorm coverage Saturday and into Sunday. Fanning Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
